Christine Lee
Piano Education & Performance
B.A., Wellesley College
M.Ed., UCLA
SMTA, MTNA
Christine enjoys teaching and performing in West Seattle, Washington. She freelances as a pianist at classical and alternative music venues, and has performed at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, at the American Protege 2013 Piano Competition, where she won Second Place.
She maintains a private teaching studio, where she enjoys working with children and adults, and sharing her love of music with them. Learning music is quite like learning a new language, one that communicates powerfully, and that without the use of any words! Music can express the heart and mind unlike any other language, and being fluent can open up a whole new world of enjoyment and expression for musicians that will last a lifetime.
Further, Christine found that the discipline she learned while studying piano in her formative years helped contribute to her academic successes as well, as is the case for many aspiring musician scholars past and present. There are too few endeavors that equip and teach our modern-day children this invaluable discipline, which alone carry them very far - “I don’t get it - Ok, let’s try it again...and again...and again... Great job, you got it!” :D Research shows that helping children master challenging tasks is what leads to bolstered confidence in children.
The most wonderful part, of course, being that music is so enjoyable and rewarding in of itself! Hopefully your child won’t even realize that s/he’s picking up some invaluable discipline and experience while enjoying his/her amazing musical journey.
Christine began her private piano studies at three years of age. She was hooked, and continued studying for over 20 years, notably with Akiko Hasunuma and Dr. Charles Fisk, among other teachers. She won numerous awards for her performances, including those at the Southwestern Youth Musical Festival, Junior Bach Festival, California-Nevada-Hawaii Key Club Talent Competition, and many more. She received her B.A. from Wellesley College, Massachusetts, continuing her Piano Performances studies there with Charlie Fisk, Phyllis Carey Henderson Professor of Music, and also pursued Piano Performance coursework at the Juilliard School Evening Division in New York while working on Wall Street. Thereafter, she found her path in education and music and received her M.Ed. from UCLA.
Christine believes in using a holistic approach to music education - training versatile musicians well-versed in classical music who can also play modern pop music - all the while helping build character and discipline in children that will benefit not only their musical skills, but also help lay the groundwork discipline necessary for success in life, in any endeavor our children may choose to pursue!
